Make A Chick Paper Plate Rocker

This yellow chick rocker is a fantastic way to use paper plates in craft. By folding the plate in half you create a rocker, making the chick rock from side to side.

It makes an ideal farm craft for younger kids and could also be used as an easy Easter craft. Brilliant for pre-school groups.

We used a white paper plate to make this and then painted it yellow. The reason that we didn't use a yellow plate is because coloured plates are generally only coloured on one side. If you fold it so the colour shows, the plate will not rock or fold properly. White plates also tend to be cheaper!

The great thing about using plain paper plates as a craft base is that you can use them for a number of different crafts. Of course, if you don't use them all, you can use them for a picnic or party instead! If you don't want to buy a whole pack of plates, just draw around a plate onto a piece of card and cut it out.

Why not try making other farm animals like a horse or a pig? Take a look at our other paper plate ideas.

How to Make It
  1. Fold your paper plate in half. Press down on the fold to make sure it stays.
  2. Paint the plate with yellow paint and allow to dry.
  3. Cut a beak from orange foam and stick it onto one side of the plate.
  4. Now add the wings and tail feathers. We used double sided tape to stick these as you don't end up with a fluffy, gluey mess!
  5. Finally, add the wobbly eye. We used a 25mm eye and embellished around it using a black felt tip pen.
  6. The chick doesn't have to be yellow! Why not try a bright green and pink one or blue and yellow bird? You could even make it patterned!
