Natural Nativity for Kids to Create

£0.00

We love our natural nativity craft for kids. This is a great way to engage kids creatively during the run up to Christmas and the perfect Christmas story ornament that can be used year after year.

We made Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus but you could easily craft the Three Wise Men, shepherds, angels or stable animals to add to your nativity scene.

Younger kids may require some adult help with this craft, but it can be adapted to all ages.

We used double sided tape as our adhesive, great for younger kids, but you could use silicone glue or a glue gun.

The faces were painted onto the 35mm untreated wooden balls using acrylic paint, you could use 40mm wooden doll face as an alternative.

How to Make It

We used 10mm double sided tape for this craft but you could use silicone glue or a glue gun.

The material measurements are based on the use of 35mm wooden balls, if you use larger wooden heads adjust the lengths accordingly.

To make Mary:

  1. Cut 1x20cm of linen fabric ribbon, 1x20cm of dark natural hessian. Stick the two materials together using double sided tape, the linen fabric ribbon on top.
  2. If using 35mm wooden balls, use acrylic paint to make a face and leave to dry.
  3. Stick a strip of double sided tape to the wooden head framing the face.
  4. Stick the material to the double sided tape, framing the face, you may want to add a little tape to the back of the head to secure the back of the head covering.
  5. You can use silicone glue to stick the head to the the bottom of the terracotta pot or, as we did, stick double sided tape vertically on the sides of the pot, and then sticking the sides of the head covering to it.
  6. Using string or a natural coloured ribbon, tie around the neck and finish with a bow.

To make Joseph:

  1. Cut 1x15cm of linen fabric ribbon and 1x15cm of dark natural hessian. Stick the two together using double side tape, the dark natural hessian on top.
  6. Using string or a natural coloured ribbon, tie around the forehead and knot at the back.

To make Baby Jesus:

  1. Paint a face onto a 36mm wooden body cone, two upside down semi circles are great for closed eyes.
  2. Wrap the cone with a 15cm length of linen ribbon and secure at the back with double sdied tape or silicone glue.
